We are a community full of truth seekers, questioners, riskers and doubters who are living into being externally focused in our city and the world, internally alive as a community and eternally connected to the living Jesus. When you participate with Union we hope you will trust you are welcome to a space to be open before God in music, scripture, prayer, serving and time with others. The church community would share the space but the building would not be After exegeting the neighborhood, we decided that what was most needed in a space were a venue and a café where people could work, connect and where a cross-section of people from low-income housing to Microsoft and Amazon employees would mingle. The streets were nearly empty as we prayed that God would pour grace upon the community to which we had moved. In 2010, we settled into our current home in South Lake Union (SLU), 415 Westlake. This rhythm of worship has become our “reality” of communally knowing and experiencing our Trinitarian God. We unearthed a rhythm of worshipthat was expressed in the weeks of the month: The next few Sundays focused on t eaching, singing, praying, and breaking bread. We prayed about how we could partner to love our city and suddenly saw doors open for opportunities of meal provision, environmental care, visitation and support in the larger community. Believing that our response of living faith in community should not be a side project but central to our understanding of God’s character. Encouraging people to view conversations with one another as acts of worship as they turned into a circle of 6-8 and spent time listening to one another’s perspective on scripture, who God is, and who God invites us to be. We experimented with our Sunday morning worship focuses. We believe that worship is our response to a loving God, our Creator, who invites us into relationship with one another, and grows within us a deep passion for God’s beloved world. We met in a space we rented on 10th and Union on Capitol Hill for Sunday worship, asking the questions: Who does God desire the church to BE in this world? How do we shape our communal life together to be a blessing for the flourishing of all humanity? In 2007 an adventurous group of fifteen people formed Union Church, a missional community of University Presbyterian Church.
